What I Love Most About Fall π
By Sweetpea Cyd’s Inspirations
Fall has always been one of my favorite times of year. There’s just something magical in the air when summer begins to fade, the evenings cool, and that crisp, woodsy breeze starts to move through the trees. The light softens, the sounds of cicadas fade, and suddenly the world feels quieter — calmer — as if nature herself is exhaling after a long, busy season.
It’s the perfect time to slow down, take a deep breath, and really soak in the beauty of where we are — right now.
The Change of the Season πΎ
My favorite part about fall has always been the change of the season itself. There’s something almost spiritual about it — the way the world shifts in color, texture, and rhythm. As someone who loves nature and tries to stay in tune with her cycles, I see fall as a season of reflection, release, and renewal.
It’s a time when the earth gently reminds us that it’s okay to let go.
The trees don’t resist the wind when their leaves are ready to fall. They simply surrender, trusting that in due time, new life will grow again. That image always stays with me — how the forest becomes this breathtaking blend of endings and beginnings all at once. The leaves swirl down in fiery shades of amber, gold, and crimson, covering the ground like a soft patchwork quilt. The air smells of pine and smoke, and you can almost feel change moving around you, wrapping everything in quiet transformation.
And isn’t that what life is, too?
We go through our own seasons — moments where we need to hold on tight and moments where we need to release what no longer serves our growth. Sometimes it’s habits, thoughts, or fears that we outgrow. Sometimes it’s people or ideas that we’ve carried for too long. But just like the trees, when we let go, we make room for something new to take root.
Fall is my reminder that there is beauty in change — even when it feels uncertain. It tells me that release is not loss, it’s preparation. That the bare branches of winter will bloom again in spring.
We are part of nature’s rhythm, even though many people forget that. The same cycles that move through the forests move through us. Fall invites us to slow down and listen — to step outside, feel the cool wind on our face, hear the crunch of leaves beneath our feet, and remember that we are not separate from this world. We belong to it.
It’s both humbling and comforting — to realize that, just like the earth, we can shed, rest, and begin again.
The Beauty of the Leaves π
And oh, those leaves. The way they light up the world before falling — it’s like nature’s final celebration before winter. The reds, golds, and oranges blaze against the blue sky, especially up in the mountains. I’ve always thought there’s something poetic about it — how the most beautiful moments often come right before change.
When I stand outside surrounded by falling leaves, it’s almost impossible not to feel grateful — for the colors, for the air, for the reminder that nothing has to last forever to be beautiful.
My Favorite Fall Drink ☕π
Now, let’s talk about my favorite fall comfort — warm apple cider.
When I was a teenager living in Tennessee, my family went to an Apple Cider Festival in Eastern TN, and to this day, it was the best apple cider I’ve ever tasted. I remember the air being cool and sweet, filled with laughter and the smell of baked apples and cinnamon. The cider was warm and rich, and I can still picture the steam curling from the cup as I held it in my hands.
It’s funny how something so simple can stay with you for years. Every time I drink apple cider now, it takes me back to that feeling — of warmth, of togetherness, of pure contentment. It’s a little sip of nostalgia, reminding me how small joys often make the biggest memories.

If you’ve been here for a while, you know how much I love baking — especially in the fall when the kitchen feels like the coziest place in the house. The smell of cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar mixing in the air just brings a sense of peace and comfort that I can’t quite describe.
While I’m a pumpkin lover through and through, my favorite fall recipe will always be a classic: the carrot cake my mom makes every Thanksgiving and for my stepdad David’s birthday (which happens to be November 23rd — shoutout to David!).
This recipe has been passed down from David’s mom, and I swear it’s the best carrot cake in the world. It’s moist, rich, perfectly spiced, and topped with the smoothest cream cheese frosting. But beyond that, it’s the love and history baked into it that make it special. It’s tradition. It’s memory. It’s family.
Every bite brings back moments of laughter around the table, stories being shared, and the feeling of belonging. That’s what food does — it connects us to the people and places that shape us.
My Favorite Fall Project π‘π―️
If decorating counts as a project — then that’s my favorite fall project by far!
Fall decorating is like an act of self-care for me. I love bringing out all my cozy touches — the soft throws, woven baskets, warm amber tones, and of course, all the candles. The whole process feels like wrapping my home in a hug.
I especially love filling the house with those comforting fall scents. My go-to is Farm Apple Pumpkin by Better Homes & Gardens (you can find it at Walmart!). It’s the perfect balance of apple, pumpkin, cinnamon, orange, and maple butter. It smells like baked goods, bonfires, and crisp mornings all at once. I’m also a sucker for anything with amber or woodsy undertones — they make every space feel grounded and calm.
Honestly, I could keep fall scents going all year long. They just make everything feel right.
My Favorite Fall Activity ππ
When we lived in the mountains of West Virginia, my favorite fall activity was simply driving to mountain overlooks and watching the world turn gold. There’s nothing quite like standing at the top of a ridge and seeing the rolling hills painted in reds and oranges — it’s humbling and healing all at once.
Now that we’re no longer in the mountains, I’ve found a new favorite tradition — visiting pumpkin patches! I love the laughter, the fresh air, and the feeling of being surrounded by the simple joys of the season. Watching kids run between pumpkins, sipping cider, petting farm animals — it’s the perfect way to reconnect as a family and soak in the sweetness of autumn.

Fall is more than a season to me — it’s a reminder.
A reminder to breathe.
To let go.
To slow down and be grateful for where we are.
It reminds me that change can be beautiful, that release can be healing, and that just like the trees, we are capable of renewal.
So here’s to cozy nights, apple cider, flickering candles, the smell of cinnamon, and the gentle whisper of the wind through the trees. π
Here’s to fall — the season that teaches us to find peace in transformation and joy in every golden moment.
